Boom Chick & Fox Van Cleef Wednesday, March 28th $5
Boom Chick
“The proliferation of guitar/drum duos continues in the rock music world, and as with all new norms, there are still a few standouts in such a seemingly simple set up. Despite the simplicity of their set up, Boom Chick are interesting because they don’t fall neatly into a specific genre. It helps that behind guitarist/vocalist Frank Hoier’s clanging and wailing, there is the seriously hard-hitting drummer, Moselle Spiller (and you can’t really appreciate just how hard-hitting she is in their recordings). The dominant vibe is pretty bluesy, sometimes softened and toned down to a more country rock feel. Then there are shifts into easy breezy surf mode, and plenty of Billy Childish inspired punk thrashings. Mostly, it’s blues rock — with a punch.” – BUSHWICKBK.com
