“The proliferation of guitar/drum duos continues in the rock music world, and as with all new norms, there are still a few standouts in such a seemingly simple set up. Despite the simplicity of their set up, Boom Chick are interesting because they don’t fall neatly into a specific genre. It helps that behind guitarist/vocalist Frank Hoier’s clanging and wailing, there is the seriously hard-hitting drummer, Moselle Spiller (and you can’t really appreciate just how hard-hitting she is in their recordings). The dominant vibe is pretty bluesy, sometimes softened and toned down to a more country rock feel.
